1) to be drifted (tossed, blown) by the wind; tók þá at f., it began to snow and drift; var fjókanda veðr, there was a (drifting) snow-storm; nú er fokit í flest skjól, now most places of shelter are snowed up; no refuge is left;

fjúka

2) fig. to fly off (fauk at höfuðið); láta ~ í kveðlingum, to let satiric verses fly.
