- (pres. skal, ~m; pret. skyldu; pret. infin. skyldu), v. shall (denoting fate, law, bidding, necessity, duty, obligation, purpose); þat skal Eyjólfr gøra, E. shall do that; hvat skal ek honum, what shall I do with him? vega skaltu hann, thou shalt kill him; hvat skal tjald þat, what is that tent for?; hón spurði, hvat þat skyldi, she asked what was the meaning of that.
